Imagine Scotland as a country filled once again with vast native forests, seas teeming with life and healthy ecosystems supporting the prosperity of communities.

This is Scotland鈥檚 opportunity to declare itself the world鈥檚 first Rewilding Nation, committing to nature recovery across 30% of land and seas for nature, climate and people.

As a member of the (SRA), 黑料正能量 is campaigning to make it happen today. There are already more than 150 rewilding projects in Scotland, but we can do much more 鈥 the time is now to grow this groundswell of hope.

We鈥檙e calling on everyone who shares our hopes and vision to urge the Scottish Government to declare Scotland the world鈥檚 first Rewilding Nation and commit to nature recovery across 30% of our land and seas.

Why a Rewilding Nation, and why Scotland?

Imagine Scotland as a country filled once again with vast native forests, seas teeming with life and healthy ecosystems supporting the prosperity of communities. Although Scotland has won deserved praise for its rewilding efforts, along with the rest of the UK it鈥檚 still . Scotland is ranked 212 out of 240 countries and territories for the state of its nature.

That鈥檚 why, as part of the SRA, we鈥檙e calling for the Scottish Government to declare Scotland a Rewilding Nation and commit to nature recovery across 30% of our land and seas. This show of support could help set a clear path towards a wilder future for Scotland.

“Rewilding offers us a chance to breathe life back into our increasingly lifeless land and seas, revitalising natural processes, restoring missing species, enriching communities, and building resilience against the challenges we know the future holds.”

Scotland鈥檚 moment of opportunity

By declaring Scotland a Rewilding Nation, supporting existing rewilders and growing a groundswell of hope, Scotland could create a different future for itself. A greener, fairer Scotland, where rewilding creates benefits for people, climate and nature.

An exciting movement of rewilders is starting to turn the tide with more than 150 rewilding projects across Scotland, from community woodlands to landscape-scale partnerships. To name a few, there鈥檚 the pioneering buyout of the Tarras Valley by the Langholm Initiative (opens in a new window) community group, the opening of Trees for Life鈥檚 Dundreggan (opens in a new window) rewilding centre that will bring many more people closer to wild nature, and the restoration and protection of coastline by locally-led organisations such as COAST (opens in a new window) or Seawilding (opens in a new window) .

Progress hasn鈥檛 been easy for these groups so far, but we can help pave the way forward for these pioneering rewilders by demanding robust policy from the Scottish Government 鈥 and by declaring Scotland as a Rewilding Nation.
